You can experience meditation and sutra copying at a historical temple established more than 1,200 years ago.
Approximate time for this tour is 2 hours. At first, you try sutra copying and it takes 40 minutes. The chief priest shows you how to use Japanese brush and how to trace the Sutra already printed on paper. The more you concentrate, the clearer your mind is.
Then you move to the main hall of the temple and sit in front of the Buddha statue. Meditation takes about 40 minutes. As you follow chants by the chief priest, you naturally go into the deep inner word of yourself.
Finally you can choose from two options, taking a walk to the historical three stories pagoda located in this temple or experiencing prayers resembling “GOMA KUYO” event by the chief priest.
This tour is guided by the chief priest of the temple.
He assists you to try a formal way of meditation which has more than a thousand years of history. In sutra coping part, he helps you to use the Japanese traditional brush and ink from the beginning.
Meditation and sutra copying are effective in organizing one’s mind, such as relaxing, being free from anxiety or sleeplessness, improving concentration and productivity, etc.
Originally sutra copying has been practiced by priests as Buddhism training, however it is wide spread for ordinary people these days because of its effectiveness to heal their mind and body by being absorbed deeply in tracing.
The temple is said to be established in 754. The oldest building, three stories pagoda, remains as it was originally built in 1441.
Recently the temple is very famous for more than 30,000 hydrangeas. In June, you can enjoy the fully bloomed hydrangeas all over the temple
